8/22/2013

HUDSON, Ohio — Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has appointed Tom Williams to SVP of store operations and human resources, replacing Ken Haverkost.

Haverkost announced his retirement as EVP of store operations, a position he held since joining the company in 2007. He will remain a part-time employee through March 2014 to assist in the transition process.

“We’d like to thank Ken for his contributions to our business over the past six years, along with the leadership he’s provided within our organization. We wish him the best in his retirement. He will truly be missed,” said Travis Smith, CEO and president of Jo-Ann Stores.

In addition to retaining his current responsibilities overseeing all corporate human resources functions for Jo-Ann, Williams will assume responsibility for leading the store operations organization, covering more than 18,000 employees and more than 800 stores.

“Tom has provided great leadership to the entire organization through his role as the head of human resources,” said Smith. “We’re excited to see him extend his influence directly over our field organization. Tom’s knowledge of our business, along with his customer-centric approach, makes him the perfect person to lead our field team into the future.”

According to the company, since Williams joined in 1998, he has revamped its performance management program and expanded leadership competencies and succession planning. Williams will continue to serve as chairman of the company’s benefits advisory committee.

Williams is a graduate of Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., with a bachelor’s of science in accounting along with a master’s in leadership and business ethics from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. He currently serves on the board of directors for Shelter Care. He and his wife, Melody, live in Stow, Ohio, and have four children and one grandchild.
