J.C. Penney Closing California Call Center

Plano, Texas J.C. Penney Co. said Wednesday it plans to close a call center in Carmichael, Calif. as more shoppers use the Internet to place orders.

The center employs about 260 people and is expected to shut down by March 20.

J.C. Penney closed another call center in Scranton, Pa., last year also because of declining call volume.

The company operates five call centers.
