Jack Link’s unveils ‘Meat Rushmore’ in NYC

6/12/2014

The clever marketers at Jack Link’s have outdone themselves, creating a replica of Mount Rushmore out of meat snacks in New York City’s Columbus Circle.

It took 1,600 pounds of various beef, pork and turkey jerky to create the 13 foot tall and 17 foot wide display modeled after South Dakota’s iconic Mount Rushmore National Monument featuring George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. The jerky sculpture appeared in Columbus Circle for just the day on June 12 to commemorate the third annual National Jerky Day. Also making an appearance was the brand’s spokescharacter Sasquatch, popularized in television commercials featuring the brand’s “feed your wild side” tagline.

The marketing initiative also included a sweepstakes to win a year’s supply of meat snacks and a selfie contest in which visitors were encouraged to share pictures via social media to receive the distinction of best photo taken at “Meat Rushmore.”

"Meat Rushmore is our most monumental undertaking yet and a fitting tribute to the all-American love of jerky as the ‘ultimeat' snack,'" said Kevin Papacek, director of marketing, Jack Link's Beef Jerky. "Thanks to snackers feeding their wild side throughout this great nation, Jack Link's is the number one brand of meat snacks in America.”

Meat Rushmore builds upon a strategy Jack Link’s has employed in the past. In 2012, the company created a jerkey replica of Sasquatch at Mall of America in Minneapolis. The same year the company lampooned the presidential elections with jerky portraits of candidates “Meat Romney” and “Barack Obameat.”
