It’s Easy Being Green

2/11/2008

The green movement has touched the retailing industry from all angles—apparel, home decor, grocery shopping. Clearly customers incorporate sustainability into their lives. If they buy organic cotton linens for their child, it only makes sense that they would spend some cash on ‘green’ toys.

Both kids and parents are becoming more aware about the environment and develop concerns, whether it’s about the safety of a toy or the endangerment of polar bears. Toy companies like Blue Orange (clown shown) and EcoToyTown (monkey shown) cater to such customers by using natural and organic materials.

Some ensure that packaging is made out of wood so it can double as storage.

Larger companies are suspected to embark on environmentally friendly toys—not a bad idea, considering the recent toy safety concerns that are still fresh on minds of parents.
