Instacart branches out to Denver, Atlanta
Crowdsourced grocery delivery provider Instacart is already putting the $44 million in funding from big name Silicon Valley investors that it received a little more than a week ago to good use. The company has this week launched its one-hour grocery delivery service in Denver and Atlanta.
Customers in Denver can order nearly any items carried in their neighborhood King Soopers and Costco stores and have them delivered in as little as one hour. Additional stores will be added in the coming weeks, and customers can combine items from multiple stores into one order.
"We chose Denver as an expansion city due to its young, tech-oriented population with busy lifestyles," said founder Apoorva Mehta. "Instacart has been extremely successful in young cities with blooming startup scenes, and Denver fits the mold entirely. We are very excited to give people in Denver access to healthy groceries on demand."
Instacart's initial coverage area includes nearly all of the Denver metropolitan area.
Meanwhile Atlanta customers can order groceries from Costco and Kroger stores and have them delivered in as little as one hour. Customers do not need to be a Costco member to order from Costco on Instacart. Additional stores will be added in the coming weeks, and like their Denver counterparts, Atlanta customers will be able to combine items from multiple stores into one order.
"Atlanta is a young city with a tech savvy culture and one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S.," said Atlanta City launcher Matt O'Connor. "It also is booming with busy young professionals who appreciate the convenience of online grocery ordering and super-fast delivery to their doorstep after a long day at work, especially in the stifling heat of these upcoming summer months."
Instacart will initially be serving the neighborhoods inside the perimeter, north of I-20. These include Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown, Decatur, Virginia-highland, Brookhaven, West Atlanta, Lenox, and Old Fourth Ward. The company will be expanding to areas outside the perimeter in the coming weeks.
