Ikea had submitted plans to build its ninth store in the state of California, in the Bay Area suburb of Dublin.
Pending approvals, Ikea could begin construction of the store in spring 2017, with an opening in summer 2018. The retailer plans to evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. renewable energy presence at nearly 90% of its U.S. locations.
The proposed 339,000-sq.-ft. Ikea Dublin would be located approximately 35 miles east of downtown San Francisco and 23 miles east of downtown Oakland on 21 acres at the northwestern corner of Interstate 580 and Hacienda Drive.
In addition, six acres contiguous to Ikea will be developed to accommodate 52,000 sq. ft. of opportunities for ancillary uses such as retail, restaurant and a boutique hotel.
“We continue to be thrilled with the reception afforded us in the Bay Area, so we are excited about submitting plans for Ikea Dublin to extend our reach further into the East Bay,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea U.S. president.
Ikea operates more than 380 stores in 47 countries, including 41 in the United States.
