IKEA builds second Florida store
ORLANDO, Fla. IKEA today announced that its second store in Florida, and its third in the Southeast, will open on Nov. 14 in Orlando.
“Due to the progress made during the spring and so far this summer, we are confident the remaining construction milestones and interior build-up process will be complete by November,” noted Michael la Cour, store manager of the future IKEA Orlando. La Cour added, “now our primary objective is to continue hiring and training the nearly 350 local hires who will be joining the IKEA coworker family before we open.”
The Orlando store will feature 10,000 exclusively-designed items, 48 room settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates, as well as American dishes.
According to IKEA, IKEA ORLANDO will occupy 309,000 square feet on 22 acres of land. This new IKEA store created 500 construction jobs and, on Nov. 14, it will welcome 350 new coworkers into the IKEA family of more than 11,000 in the U.S. and 100,000 globally.
