Hot Topic Same-Store Sales Up in Jan.

City of Industry, Calif. Defying the January spending freeze, Hot Topic on Wednesday reported that its January sales rose to $44.8 million, up 8.4% from last year. Total same-store sales increased 6%. Same-store sales at namesake locations were up 8.8%, but fell 6.2% at the company’s plus-sized division, Torrid.

For the fourth quarter, the company reported net sales of $238.0 million, up 7.8% from last year. Total same-store rose 5.2%.

For the full fiscal year, Hot Topic reported net sales of $761.0 million, up 4.5% from the year-ago period. Same-store sales for the year were up 1.0%, with an increase of 1.8% at Hot Topic and a decrease of 2.4% at Torrid.
