Holiday Technology Sales Down 0.5%
Port Washington, N.Y. Overall consumer-technology sales reached $4.5 billion in the beginning of this year’s holiday shopping period, which is a decline of O.5% from the same period last year, according to weekly point-of-sale information released by The NPD Group. The period includes November 18 through December 9, 2007.
LCD TVs saw a dollar-sales increase of 64% and a unit-sales increase of 43%. Plasma TVs experienced a dollar-sales decline of 23% and a unit-sales decline of 6%.
Notebook computers saw a dollar-sales increase of 12% and a unit-sales increase of 23%, while digital cameras sales declined nearly 13%. Unit sales for the product were up nearly 1%.
