High-def focus of revamped Wal-Mart CE dept.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. Wal-Mart announced that its newly completed consumer electronics department will focus heavily on high-definition offerings.

The new department includes a more than 58% increase in high-definition televisions, with new models and brands, as well as larger TV sizes. An increased assortment of Blu-ray products is also part of the change, with new players and a greater selection of movies assigned to their own area.

In addition, the CE department will feature a social gaming area where players can play their favorite games in store.

Wal-Mart also confirmed reports that it would be offering a $100 Wal-Mart gift card with the purchase of any Blu-ray player in its stores, June 8 through June 14.
