H-E-B reaches charitable milestone
SAN ANTONIO H-E-B announced that it has donated more than 750 million pounds of food to Texas food banks since 1982.
To mark this milestone and see its support continued, H-E-B said it is once again kicking off its Help End Hunger campaign in its stores across the state. The annual campaign, now entering its 19th year, provides a direct way for H-E-B customers to support the local affiliate of the Feeding America Texas Food Banks in their area with a financial donation.
The campaign consists of tear-off coupons in denominations of $1, $3, and $5 being made available at the check stands at H-E-B stores through June 28, 2010. Customers are able to tear-off a coupon and add the desired amount to their final grocery bill. The money is then awarded to the food bank servicing the area where the money was raised. In 2009 alone, a total of $327,500 was raised by customers.
“We are strongly committed to providing our Texas food banks with the resources they need to serve the community and to empowering our customers to get directly involved in the cause,” said Winell Herron, group VP public Affairs and diversity for H-E-B.
