H-E-B in pilot solar program

New York City In a pilot program, H-E-B is installing solar panels on the roof of one of its stores in Austin, Texas. If successful, the initiative could be expanded to other stores, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

The project, which calls for a 2,500-sq.-ft. solar array on the building's roof, is due to be completed in July. The panels will produce about 31,000 kWh of renewable energy annually, according to the report.

As part of the project, H-E-B is participating in the solar rebate program offered through Austin Energy. The rebate amount is 80% of the invoiced cost or a maximum of $100,000, whichever is less.
