H-E-B joins fight against swine flu

4/29/2009

San Antonio With several reported cases of swine flu in the Schertz, and Cibolo, Texas regions, H.E. Butt Grocery Co. said Monday that its stores operating in these areas are stocking up on supplies to help residents protect themselves against swine flu, according to an article in Progressive Grocer.

While H-E-B has not been linked to any occurrences of the disease, the chain is being proactive. Besides increasing the stock levels of hand sanitizers, wipes and soaps on store shelves, the grocer’s associates are also offering shoppers antibacterial cart wipes and other sanitary resources to use while shopping.

The U.S Department of Agriculture and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that viruses are not transmitted by food.

H-E-B is further setting consumers’ minds at ease by notifying customers that all of its food items are safe, the article said.
