Green consumers spend more on organics

6/5/2008

PHOENIX Green consumers are the top spenders in categories offering a higher selection of sustainable choices such as produce, cereal, soup, eggs, pasta, nuts and light bulbs, according to a new survey by The Nielsen Company and the Natural Marketing Institute.

Green households, according to the survey, account for 81% of organic product purchases, nearly four times as much as "unconcerned" consumers (consumers not on the eco-radar). These consumers are also more likely to purchase products with health claims, such as gluten free, multi-grain and probiotic.

Green consumers are also more likely to shop in warehouse clubs than non-green consumers.
