Gottschalks Sales Drop 13% in August

Fresno, Calif. Gottschalks reported that sales dropped 13.3% at its 58 stores in August.

The company also reported sales of $37.2 million in August, down from $42.9 million a year ago in the same month.

Same store sales fell 11.1% in August.

Jim Famalette, chairman and CEO of Gottschalks, blamed “the continuing weak economic environment” for the fall in sales.

Famalette also said the company is keeping inventories low.
