Going goo goo for Gaga

2/14/2011

Wow! Did you catch Lady Gaga at the Grammy Awards Sunday night? She received the award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album just days after Target announced an exclusive deal that allows fans to download the first single of her new album, “Born This Way,” scheduled for release on May 23. Gaga fans were able to pre-order the new album beginning last Friday through Feb. 26 at www.Target.com/gaga. Target’s exclusive deluxe edition includes three additional studio songs and five remixes, and will be available at stores nationwide and on Target.com. According to a press release announcing the deal, Lady Gaga has become a fashion, entertainment and music icon renowned for her edgy embrace of pop culture.

That’s one way to put it. Another might be that she is just the latest in a long line of vocalists who’ve ascended to fame courtesy of outrageous behavior, outlandish costumes and highly choreographed stages shows loaded with special effects as opposed to whether not the artist can actually sing.

This phenomenon was in full effect at the Grammy’s as Lady Gaga took the stage in black outfit that merged gladiatorial and stripper influences in addition to some temporary (hopefully) cosmetic work done to create small triangular shaped protrusions from her forehead and shoulders. As Target chief marketing office Michael Francis explained, “Target has a long history of working with a diverse group of musicians, entertainers and designers that appeal to a broad spectrum of our guests. Lady Gaga is one of the most dynamic artists of our time, and we are excited to add her to Target’s outstanding list of music partnerships.”

Her manager and record label are excited by the deal which should help produce additional sale and exposure for brand Gaga.

“Target and Lady Gaga together is a win-win,” said her manager Troy Carter, chairman and CEO of Coalition Media Group. “The partnership provides us with an opportunity to really engage the fans early and widen our reach on the album promotion.”
