GNC Revenues Fall

8/5/2005

Pittsburgh, GNC Corp., which operates General Nutrition Center retail stores, announced that revenues have fallen as sales of diet products slumped.

The health supplements retailer said that domestic same-store sales fell, primarily in the diet category, but the sales drops were partially offset by an increase in sports nutrition product sales.

Another contributor to falling sales numbers is a decrease in the number of stores. Since its last reporting period in March, GNC has 12 fewer domestic, company-owned stores and 83 fewer domestic franchised locations.

The company reported 2Q consolidated revenues of $333.3 million, down 4.1% from the prior year. Net income dropped by more than half.
