Giant Eagle relaunches LeNature plant

1/18/2008

LATROBE, Pa. Giant Eagle is relaunching the former LeNature bottling plant in Latrobe, Pa., according to reports.

Giant Eagle bought the bankrupt plant last September and has reportedly renamed the facility the Chestnut Ridge Beverage Co. The company has begun producing bottled water under the Giant Eagle brand. According to reports, the company is expected to produce flavored water, teas and carbonated beverages, as well as other products for companies other than Giant Eagle.

Giant Eagle agreed to pay $20 million to pull the bottling plant out of bankruptcy in September 2007. A bankruptcy judge approved the company's bid a month after ruling that it had pushed another bidder, Cadbury Schweppes, into backing out of its bid.
