General Mills names new ceo
MINNEAPOLIS General Mills has named Kendall Powell as chairman of the board and ceo. The appointment is effective May 23, when Stephen Sanger will retire as chairman of the board, concluding a distinguished 34-year career with the company. Sanger was elected chairman and ceo of General Mills in May 1995. Powell joined the company in 1979 and has served as ceo of General Mills since September 2007.
Ray Gilmartin, chairman of the board’s corporate governance committee said, "The directors unanimously agree that Ken Powell is uniquely qualified to lead the company and our board through the next phase of General Mills’ long-term growth. His deep knowledge of our business and the global food industry, combined with his commitment to the company’s distinctive culture, make him an outstanding choice."
