GameStop launches promotion now that school's out for summer

7/19/2013

GRAPEVINE, Texas — As retailers large and small vie for foot traffic during the highly competitive back-to-school season, GameStop is focusing its efforts on the segment of its market that is on summer vacation.

The multichannel video game retailer has launched a five-week Summer Playcation promotion the offers gamers deals now through Aug. 18 in all U.S. GameStop locations.

Summer Playcation features trade and discount offers, and every transaction earns customers the chance to win one of thousands of prizes. During the promotional period, customers who buy or trade in anything at a GameStop location will receive a two-sided game piece. Customers who make online purchases will receive an entry code via email. The game piece includes a 50% trade bonus good for use by customers when trading toward their next purchase — valid Aug. 19 through Sept. 15 — as well as a code they can enter online for a chance to win prizes.

The retailer will also hold a Twitter-based Share-to-Win Sweepstakes. Each week for five weeks, GameStop will choose one person who shares a Tweet to win a $100 GameStop gift card. Tweeters can enter their entry code from a recent GameStop transaction to register at www.gamestop.com/playcation and then click to ‘share’ to enter.

Additionally, the retailer is reminding its customers that summer getaways are about fun, so while parents are shopping for the upcoming school year, gaming fans can look for original content that will be posted to GameStop’s Facebook page that they can then repost as well as participate in polls about how they are preparing for their own Summer Playcation by using hashtag #SummerPlaycation hashtag. Gamers can also use the hashtag on Instagram and Twitter.
