Furniture retailer gets comfortable with labor management

Nebraska Furniture Mart needs everything under control to compete with larger chains, and is ensuring some of its most basic functions are running as smoothly as possible.



The Omaha, Nebraska-based retailer, which is a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary with four branded stores and one clearance store, has selected the WorkForce Software EmpCenter solution to manage labor at its retail, warehouse, and corporate home office locations.



EmpCenter Time and Attendance provides coverage and real-time visibility for all employee groups and locations on a single cloud-based platform. Its flexibility and configurable architecture allows Nebraska Furniture Mart to more precisely track labor management activities while gaining real-time visibility for metrics such as scheduled versus actual work hours, overtime, and time-off accrued.



"We needed a solution that could meet the needs of our entire workforce, from the cashiers on the retail floor, to our warehouse employees and those working from our corporate home office," said Nebraska Furniture Mart CFO Doug Hamlin. "After evaluating several vendors, we selected WorkForce Software because their solution is able to provide our managers with the tools they need to make their jobs easier. Eliminating the lag time we used to experience will help us save costs and increase efficiencies, as well."



The company also selected EmpCenter Absence Compliance Tracker (ACT) for managing employee leaves. Preconfigured to simplify compliance with more than 400 absence and leave regulations across North America, ACT streamlines eligibility determinations and end-to-end case management.



Nebraska Furniture Mart does not have a lot of room for error, as an increasing number of brick-and-mortar and online retailers are offering furniture as part of their assortment.
