The Frye Company’s first location in Colorado took top honors as Store of the Year in the 2017 Shop! store design competition.

With a design that celebrates the artisan heritage of one of the oldest footwear companies in America, the 2,460-sq.-ft. store has a warm and comfortable vibe, with a modern ski-lodge aesthetic. Customers first encounter the fireplace room, where fur and shearling boot styles address Denver’s cold weather and ski culture. Local references include the massive working fireplace, dressed with stone from local quarries, and rugs woven with American Indian motifs.

Reflecting the company’s footwear, the focus is on real and authentic materials — wood, stone, glazed tile, steel, and aluminum, all gently treated to expose their inherent beauty. White oak and hickory woods warm the space from the entrance through to the back, and are featured in flooring, fixtures, tables, and wall and ceiling treatments.

Edler-Jones Contracting served as general contractor for the store; AOR Lochte + Architectural Group provided architectural services.
