Greensboro, N.C. The Fresh Market announced Wednesday that it has hired Goldman Sachs to explore a sale, after 25 years as a family-owned company.
The gourmet grocer, which operates 80 stores in 18 states, will explore outside investment opportunities.
“Because of our strong history, recent success and ongoing plans for growing the company, we are in a unique and ideal position right now to consider offers for outside investment,” the company said in a statement.
It added that it expects the process to take several months to complete.
