Fred’s Stores implements electronic receiving system

9/1/2009

Akron, Ohio Fred’s Stores is rolling out an electronic, direct-store delivery receiving system from SofTechnics, a leading provider of mobile price- and inventory-management solutions for retailers.

The solution is comprised of the in-store receiving application -- a module within SofTechnics’ SoftGrocer suite that is tightly integrated with Fred’s host and internal accounting systems.

The chain is implementing the SoftGrocer solution across all its approximate 650 stores.

“This system has reduced the time to receive product in the stores, simplified procedures, provided needed control over this process, and improved the timing of detailed inventory balances,” said Jim Deats, senior VP and CIO, Fred’s, Memphis, Tenn. Perhaps the most important benefit is the savings we have experienced by ensuring accurate costing of products.”

The chain said it conducted store surveys after implementing SoftGrocer and received high approval ratings from its store managers due to the improved accuracy and increased productivity.
