Foundation supports 'the most important meal of the day'

Walmart announced that it is funding Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom, a new initiative aimed at increasing breakfast consumption among schoolchildren and highlighting the academic and nutritional benefits of eating in the morning.


Walmart Foundation donated $3 million to the initiative being run collectively bythe Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), National Association of Elementary School Principals Foundation, National Education Association Health Information Network, and School Nutrition Foundation.


According to a Walmart press release, the Breakfast in the Classroom will serve five public school districts that demonstrate exceptional need for the program. Those districts include:Dallas Independent School District, Texas; Little Rock School District, Arkansas; Memphis City Schools, Tennessee; Orange County Public Schools, Florida (including Orlando); and Prince George’s County Public Schools, Maryland (outside Washington, D.C.).

The Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom bring diverse expertise in working with community leaders, principals, teachers, education support professionals, school food service specialists, and anti-hunger advocates.
