Former exec returns to Urban Outfitters as CEO

2/6/2012

PHILADELPHIA — Urban Outfitters Inc. has appointed a former executive as CEO of its namesake brand. The company named Tedford Marlow as head of the Urban Outfitters Group, effective Feb. 6. Marlow had retired from the chain in 2010, after spending nine years as president of the Urban Outfitters brand.

The announcement came almost a month after Richard Hayne, the company's chairman and president, succeeded CEO Glen Senk, who resigned. Hayne co-founded the company in 1970.

"We are excited to have Ted rejoin our URBN team," said Hayne. "Ted is an exceptional leader with great vision and has an intimate knowledge of and appreciation for the brand."

Prior to retiring in 2010, Marlow spent nine years as president of the Urban Outfitters brand. Under his leadership, the Urban Outfitters brand grew revenues to over $1billion, opened more than 100 stores in the U.S., successfully expanded the brand into Canada and Continental Europe, and oversaw the rapid growth of the brand's direct-to-consumer businesses.
