Food drives BJ's May sales
NATICK, Mass. BJ's reported that May sales increased by 15.9% to $824.3 million from $711 million in May 2007. On a comparable-club basis, sales for May increased by 13.4%, including a contribution from sales of gasoline worth 6.6%.
BJ's said sales were strongest in the Southeast and Upstate New York regions and weakest in the Metro New York and New England regions.
The company saw strength in its food department with sales up approximately 11%, driven by strong sales of perishable foods.
