Feeling good about pharmacy

9/27/2010

Among the unusually large number of positive developments emanating out of Minneapolis this week was news that the Target pharmacy topped the J.D. Power and Associates National Pharmacy Study. It is the fourth time the firm has conducted the survey, which included responses from more than 12,300 people gathered between May and June. Those who filled or refilled a prescription during this period were asked their opinions about the ordering and pick-up process, the stores, cost competiveness, non-pharmacist staff and the pharmacist.

Target topped the list of mass merchandisers with a score of 848, out of a possible 1,000, followed closely by Sam’s Club and Costco at 844. Kmart and Walmart lagged at 818 and 769, respectively.

So how significant are the numerical differences? It’s difficult to tell as J.D. Power notes that “the rankings are based on numerical scores, and not necessarily on statistical significance.” A score of 901 or higher, something no company achieved, was an indication of a highly-satisfied customers while a score below 550 was an indication of low customer satisfaction.
