The rhetoric over allowing foreign direct investment in India is reminiscent of the rhetoric that would have occurred in the United States 30 years ago had Walmart’s critics knew then what they profess to know now.



The company and other international rivals eager to grow in India remain stymied in their efforts because of Indian restrictions relating to foreign direct investment. Opponents of opening up the nation to foreign retailers contend it will destroy the nation’s mom-and-pop retailers. Sound familiar?
