Farmer Jack President Steps Down

Detroit, Farmer Jack President Mike Carter announced that after three tempestuous years as the head of the Detroit grocery chain, he will resign from his post.

Throughout the past three years, Farmer Jack has lost market share to Kroger and Wal-Mart, among others. In May, Farmer Jack’s owner, the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A&P), said it would sell the chain, but thus far, no potential buyers have come forth.

As for Carter, his next job remains unknown, despite his assertion that he announced his resignation to A&P earlier this year. “At the company’s request I agreed to stay on to help prepare the company for sale,” Carter said. "I'm just ready to move on to new opportunities.”
