Family Dollar 2Q comps up

MATTHEWS, N.C. Family Dollar Stores reported that net sales for the second quarter ended Feb. 27 increased 4.9% to $2.09 billion from $1.99 billion in the second quarter ended Feb. 28, 2009. Comparable-store sales for the quarter increased 3.6%.

According to the company, sales during the quarter were strong in the seasonal, home and consumable categories.

Family Dollar said it now expects that earnings for the second quarter will be between 75 cents and 80 cents per diluted share.
