Exclusive: New housewares show to launch in January 2009

7/15/2008

NEW YORK For anyone in the housewares industry who has ever dreamt of attending a North American trade show earlier in the year, their dreams are about to come true. From the former producer of the National Hardware Show comes a brand new housewares trade event whose inaugural launch is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2009, in Miami.

Appropriately dubbed First Look Housewares, the new show is designed as a means of providing retail buyers with a first look at products and trends for the new year.

“Retailers and manufacturers need a way to get together at the very beginning of the year,” said First Look producer Rob Cappiello, formerly with Reed Exhibition’s National Hardware Show. “The purpose of the First Look Housewares Show is to start the process of new product evaluation so that deals can be concluded in time to begin production.” According to Cappiello, the show, which will emphasize new products, is designed to allow retailers to get through the show floor quickly. Booth sizes, for example, will be small and easy to navigate. (Maximum booth size is 400 square feet per exhibitor.)

Whether the launch of a new venue for housewares buyers will have any effect on the industry’s other two major events, the International Home and Housewares Show scheduled for March 2009 (produced by IHA) or the Gourmet Housewares Show scheduled for May 2009 (produced by George Little Management) remains to be seen. But according to First Look producer Cappiello Management, early reaction by buyers and exhibitors has been strong.
