Employees give Starbucks high marks in a key area

Starbucks is the number one retailer employer in the United States when it comes to fostering a happy workplace.



That’s according to a survey by CareerBliss, which analyzed the key factors that impact workplace happiness. Ace Hardware, Ikea, Apple and Barnes & Noble round out the CareerBliss top five.



“The employee reviews on CareerBliss rank Starbucks as the number one retail employer in the United States when it comes to employee happiness,” said Heidi Golledge, co-founder of CareerBliss.



As to the importance of a happy workplace, Golledge noted that employee happiness is a great thing for customers and employers. Happier employees give better customer service, turn over less and produce more, she said.



The CareerBliss Happiest Retail Employers for 2015 data evaluates the key factors that impact happiness at work including: the employer’s relationship with management and company CEO, compensation, workplace environment, growth opportunities, satisfaction with job role, and the overall workplace setting. The results are generated from CareerBliss.com review submissions.



In its analysis, CareerBliss found that employees who work for Starbucks enjoy more than just a good cappuccino. College tuition programs, great employee benefits, growth opportunity, and an overall positive work culture were all factors that helped Starbucks come out on top.



“With more than 12,000 independent employee reviews in retail, we understand what truly drives happiness at work. In addition to culture, we found that companies that provide a strong support system for employees yielded happier team members. Savvy retail employers such as Starbucks and Apple work with their employees and turn a retail job into a career,” said Golledge.



For all retailers in the top 10 CareerBliss Happiest Retail Employer List for 2015 (below), common factors for work place happiness were positive coworkers, job support and opportunity to grow their career.
