Earnings heat up at Hot Topic

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. — Teen retailerHot Topicreported net income in the fourth quarter of $12.1 million, or 29 cents per share, compared with net income of $9 million, or 21 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011.

Total sales for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 increased 11% to $233 million compared with $209.9 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011. Total company comparable sales increased 2.6% for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012.

For the fiscal year of 2012, the company reported net income of $19.5 million, or 46 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $1.8 million, or 4 cents per share, for fiscal year 2011.
