DSW Hit by Data Thieves
Columbus, Ohio, DSW Shoe Warehouse suffered a data security breach that led to the release of an unknown amount of customer credit-card information. The division of Retail Ventures said that it is reviewing its technology systems while working with computer security experts to “mitigate the situation.”
The cyber attack focused on a company database with information from 103 of the chain’s 175 stores.
“Our first concern is to make our customers aware of the issue and ask that they maintain a watchful eye for any unauthorized use of their credit cards,” said Julie Davis, general counsel of Retail Ventures.
DSW’s breach was one of several recent security lapses in corporate America. Bank of America Corp., NexisLexis and ChoicePoint also reported infringements of customer information.
