Domino’s franchise adds contactless smart card payments

5/29/2009

Milton Keynes, England The Domino’s Pizza Restaurant franchise in Bolton, England is adding a private-label contactless smart card payment system. The franchise is part of the Domino's Pizza Group Limited, a subsidiary of Domino's Pizza UK & IRL plc.

By partnering with payment technology provider sQuidcard, London, Domino’s will allow diners to tap the chip card over a dedicated scanner to pay for purchases. Customers can register their cards at a dedicated Web site, where they can also view their transactions and refill their card. Diners can also add funds to cards at the restaurants.

The payment option will reduce costs associated with handling cash and speed up the tendering process. Since the card’s chip also holds cardholder purchase data, Domino’s can electronically grab these details during checkout and use the information to create targeted promotions that it will deliver via email.

The Bolton franchise is the first network in the Domino’s chain to adopt the technology, according to a company statement.
