Dollar Tree profit rises 28%

Chesapeake, Va. Dollar Tree's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings rose 28%, beating analysts’ estimates. For the quarter ended Jan. 31, the discounter reported a profit of $135 million, up from $105.2 million in the year-ago period.

Revenue rose 12.4% to $1.56 billion. Same-store sales rose 6.6%.

The company says it expects sales of $5.59 billion to $5.76 billion in 2010.

“In 2010, we expect continued positive results from our focus on merchandise productivity, keen management of supply chain and back office expenses and investment in initiatives and merchandise to thrill the customer,” said president and CEO Bob Sasser. “Dollar Tree is well positioned for continued growth."
