Dollar General to offer prepaid cards from Western Union

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Dollar General will now offer Westerm Union branded general-purpose reloadable (GPR) prepaid cards at Dollar General’s more than 10,000 stores in 40 states.



“This agreement builds upon Western Union’s continued expansion of stored-value solutions focused on strengthening both its relationship and value proposition with consumers seeking convenient prepaid services and its relationship with mass-market retailers who want to offer value-added financial services to customers,” said Carter Hunt, SVP global key accounts and business sevelopment for Western Union.



Dollar General is now offering the Western Union MoneyWise and co-branded Western Union Telemundo cards.



“Dollar General is proud to broaden our merchandise assortment with the addition of Western Union prepaid cards,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s EVP, division president and chief merchandising officer. “Prepaid cards are growing in popularity as a useful money-management tool, and we’re happy to offer them in our stores as an added convenience for our customers.”



Customers can load funds onto their cards through Western Union money transfers, direct deposit or via their bank accounts online. They can also reload money onto their cards in person at participating Dollar General locations and at more than 45,000 other retail locations in the United States, including participating Western Union Agent locations.



Cardholders can use the cards anywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted, including online and at ATMs. The cards are protected by the MasterCard Zero Liability policy. No credit check or bank account is required to sign up, and cardholders can manage their card accounts both online and over the phone.
