Dollar General keeps expanding its distribution network
Dollar General Corp. has announced plans to build what will be its 15th fqcility in the discounter’s growing distribution network.
The discounter has purchased land in Jackson, Georgia to serve as the location for the new distribution center it plans to construct in the central part of the state.
The center is expected to service more than 1,000 stores in the Southeast. At full capacity, the approximately 1-million-sq.-ft. facility is expected to employ more than 500 people to serve stores in Georgia and surrounding states. The project represents a capital investment of approximately $85 million. The company plans to begin construction as early as summer 2016, with an estimated completion scheduled for summer/fall 2017.

Dollar General currently has more than 700 stores and more than 5,000 employees in Georgia. The retailer’s 14 other distribution centers are located in Alabama, California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
