Dollar General gets charitable with 10% discount on volume toy purchases

12/9/2008

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. Dollar General announced that it is offering an additional 10% discount on volume toy purchases of $250 or more starting Dec. 9, at all 8,300 Dollar General stores. The additional discount, taken off the lowest sale price, is designed to facilitate charitable holiday toy drives. The volume discount offer applies to all toys and is good until Dec. 24. Electronics, such as DVD and MP3 players, are excluded.

Dollar General is a national sponsor of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots toy drive, contributing $375,000 over the last three years, including $125,000 this year. Stores collect more than a million toys a year for the Toys for Tots campaign and for other local toy drives.

"We appreciate the generosity of our customers and want to support their charitable donations by offering an additional discount of 10%," said chairman and ceo Rick Dreiling. "This is the season to share and we are proud to be a part of the effort to help those who are less fortunate."
