A shooting at a Walmart store in Southaven, Mississippi, on early Tuesday morning resulted in the death of two Walmart employees and the wounding of a police officer.
The suspect, whose name was not released, has been identified as a “disgruntled employee” who had a personal grievance with a manager, according to a report by
NBC News. He was shot by a police officer and then taken to surgery. The incident started at about 6:32 a.m.
Walmart released a statement offering condolences to the victims and their families.
“The entire Walmart family is heartbroken by the loss of two valued members of our team,” stated Greg Foran, president and CEO, Walmart U.S. “We feel tragedies like this personally, and our hearts go out to the families of our two associates and the officer who was injured. We are relieved the suspect was apprehended, and we appreciate the quick response of the local authorities and our associates. We’ll continue to focus on assisting law enforcement in their investigation and on supporting our associates."
