Dick’s Sporting Goods plans regional facility in New York

7/19/2016

Dick’s Sporting Goods is building a new $100 million regional distribution center that will service more than 200 stores throughout the Northeast.

The 650,000-sq.-ft. facility will be located at Broome County Corporate Park in Conklin, New York. Construction will begin in August 2016 and is scheduled for completion in early 2018. Dick’s expects to create 466 full-time jobs at the center during the next five years.

The new regional distribution facility will be Dick’s fifth nationally. Along with construction of the facility, related site work will include wetland mitigation, grading and clearing, and extension of utilities. Additionally, the retailer is pursuing LEED certification for the facility, with plans to incorporate sustainable components such as high efficiency lighting and HVAC, recycled and environmentally-friendly construction materials, energy management systems and recycling programs for corrugate and plastics.

“We are extremely pleased to announce our plan to build and operate a distribution center in Greater Binghamton, further strengthening our deep roots in this community,” said Edward W. Stack, chairman and CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods. “We started the company here and ultimately chose Conklin for the business-friendly environment, the quality and reliability of the workforce and the opportunity to bring jobs to our hometown.”
