UberRush is not the only online delivery provider looking to expand its reach.
Same-day delivery provider Deliv has announced several longstanding relationships with a number of shopping platforms and e-commerce companies. Deliv has been publicly providing same-day delivery from the websites of omnichannel retailers including Macy's, Best Buy, Kohl's, and Walgreens.
Retailers can tie directly into Deliv's API so that deliveries are seamlessly passed to Deliv directly from the retailers' websites.
However, in the past year, Deliv has also been quietly powering delivery for shopping platforms and e-commerce companies including Google Express, Farfetch, Casper, Handy, Plated, The Bouqs, BlueApron, Drync, Urban Stems, BloomThat and others.
Coincidentally or not, Deliv made this announcement at the same time Uber was announcing its UberRush delivery service, which promises third-party delivery of online hours in one hour or less, is expanding its scope to serve Tier I retailers and partnering with major technology companies to support this initiative.
Some remarks in Deliv’s official press release appear to be aimed at Uber and UberRush, without mentioning either by name.
“The company is focused solely on the business of package delivery, making it unique in the last mile market as Deliv does not transport people, nor does it sell goods,” said Deliv. “Instead, Deliv works exclusively as a back-end same-day delivery service for businesses and can integrate directly into their enterprise ecommerce websites and inventory management systems so that companies never lose their direct connection to customers.”
Furthermore, Deliv promoted its ability to offer schedule deliveries for time-definite windows, rather than ASAP as with UberRush, as an advantage.
“Deliv also stands out in the last mile logistics space because of its ability to offer scheduled deliveries for time-definite windows, now or in the future,” said Deliv. “Deliv's data shows that when given the choice, the majority of customers choose scheduled deliveries later in the day versus on-demand within an hour, proving that predictability trumps speed with retail.”
While retail still needs to watch the same-day delivery market to see how much growth actually occurs, there is no question that growth in same-day delivery competition is intensifying by the day.
