Delhaize not opposed to Ahold merger
BRUSSELS Delhaize is not against merging with Ahold, the company's chief executive reportedly said in an interview with the Belgian financial paper, L'Echo.
Pierre-Olivier Beckers, reportedly stated that though he would not comment on the long-time rumors of a potential merger between Delhaize and Ahold, Delhaize would not be against the idea if the right opportunity arose.
Beckers added that Delhaize would be open to selling its growing markets in Indonesia and Romania if a buyer came along so that it could focus on its core businesses in the United States, Belgium and Greece.
