Data Breach at Advance Auto Parts
Roanoke, Va. Advance Auto Parts is investigating a network intrusion that compromised data from 14 stores, potentially impacting financial information of 56,000 customers. The breach affected stores in Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia. Advance Auto, which operates 3,261 stores in 40 states, released a statement that it believes the incident has been contained.
The company has notified its credit, debit and check processors and is working with law enforcement to conduct a criminal investigation. Advance Auto has begun sending letters to customers it has identified as potential victims of the data breach and has posted information on its Web site as well as established a dedicated toll-free customer service line to assist customers who made purchases in the stores that were breached.
