CVS Provides Mobile Pharmacies for Hurricane Aid

Woonsocket, R.I., CVS rushed drugs, supplies and pharmaceuticals to the Gulf Coast to help the area devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The drug store chain will establish up to 30 emergency pharmacy units in areas impacted by the storm. The first unit will open today at the Houston Astrodome, where evacuees are being bussed. The units are being deployed in cooperation with state, federal and local evacuation authorities.

CVS also began 24-hour service at Baton Rouge, La., locations to cope with the approximately 10,000 displaced people in shelters there.

The retailer’s relief effort also includes the donation of ice, water and toiletry items to victims of the storm, and the contribution of $504,000 in cash and pharmacy products to the American Red Cross.
