Court approves Southern Family Markets purchase of Bruno’s

Birmingham, Ala. Southern Family Markets announced Thursday that U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Benjamin Cohen approved SFM's plan to purchase substantially all of the assets of Bruno’s Supermarkets, including 31 operating stores under the Federal Bankruptcy Court in Birmingham, Ala.

SFM will acquire the rights to certain Bruno’s and Food World banners and locations, along with all intellectual property rights of Bruno’s including the “Bruno’s” and “Food World” banners.

“SFM is extremely excited about the purchase and combination of the SFM and Bruno’s operations,” said Jeffery Burkhead, senior VP and general manager of SFM. “Bruno’s is an institution in the grocery marketplace and SFM is proud to be able to continue their long tradition of excellence and service. We are also very pleased to be able to preserve a large number of jobs that otherwise may have been lost.”
