Costco stops selling studded tires

10/17/2007

ISSAQUAH, Wash. Costco will not sell studded tires at its Tire Centers this winter in an effort to reduce damage to roads. The only exception will be its stores in Alaska.

Costco corporate tire buyer Pat McClintock said the move is “environmentally responsible” and will help save wear and tear on roadways. The damage that winter tires inflict on roads has prompted states like Minnesota and Michigan to ban them. Costco will continue to sell stud-ready tires that can be equipped with studs elsewhere.
