Costco now carrying Blu-ray players
ISSAQUAH, Wash. Costco has jumped into the high-definition DVD business with both feet with the addition of Blu-ray players at its stores. Costco is now selling the basic Sony player for $449, about $50 below the standard price of $499. The move gives Costco a two-month jump on Target, which announced plans to start selling Blu-ray players in October.
But unlike Target, Costco isn’t committed to one format. It entered the high-definition DVD market in April when it started carrying Toshiba’s HD-DVD player for $349. That price has since dropped to $279 and now comes with a $30 instant rebate that drops the price to $249.
