Costco expands food stamps program

SAN FRANCISCO Costco Wholesale, according to reports, is now accepting food stamps at all of its clubs nationwide.

The retailer had begun testing the program at its New York clubs five months ago, with some reluctancy, as it did not expect demand to use food stamps would bet hat hight.

According to reports, Costco did find that food stamps were useful to members, such as those recently laid off, who needed an extra hand paying for items. The company is not expecting the expansion of the program to be a significant expense.
